May 31 through June 2: Madison and Freedom. The second annual King Pine Triathalon and Youth Race is the perfect event to test the crystal waters of Purity Lake, bike the scenic roadways of Madison and Freedom, and run along rolling roads and trails! Designed with beginners in mind, the course will be fun for all that enjoy sprint distance races. The Triathlon Sprint, open to all ages 14 and up, includes a 1/3 mile swim, 12.5 mile bike, and 3.1 mile run. Not up to the challenge? Grab some friends and enter as a relay team. The Duathlon course, open to all ages 14 and up, includes a 2 mile run, 12.5 mile bike, and 3.1 mile run. The YOUTH division, open to ages 7 - 14 begins with a 100 yard swim, 2 mile mountain bike, and ½ mile run. June 1: Albany. The Community School holds its annual community auction and fundraiser at 3 p.m. at the Tin Mountain Conservation Center today. There will be lively fun, entertainment, and delicious food to enjoy while bidding on some very interesting items. For more information, call 323-7000.

June 7: As prices for food and fuel continue to climb around the world, the Tamworth Farmers' Market looks forward to a second successful season of providing fresh, local food to the grateful Saturday morning crowds. This season begins today from 9 to noon rain or shine, and runs every Saturday through Columbus Day weekend. The Market is located in the parking lot of the Unitarian Church at the intersection of Rt. 113 and Main Street in Tamworth Village. The Unitarians will be holding a fundraising plant sale, mostly perennials, along side the Farmers' Market on opening day. They will also be holding a raffle and selling good quality garden supplies. June 7: Cook Memorial Library of Tamworth will also be holding a plant sale, in their case mostly annuals. Besides vegetable plants, vendors will be offering fresh bread and baked goods, raw milk, yogurt, kefir, maple syrup, eggs, early greens, local
meats, coffee, and much more, including a few fiddle tunes to round out the festive atmosphere. FMI, call 323-8510.

June 7: Tamworth Village. Join us for a Victorian style tea at the Captain Enoch Remick House at 3 p.m. in Tamworth Village. Enjoy freshly brewed teas, lavender lemonade, scones, and delicate cookies, such as Lemon Drops, Wild Maine Blueberry Thumb Print cookies, and Heavenly Halos. Learn about the history of tea and tea etiquette in the Remick family home decorated with antique furnishings. The fee for Victorian Tea is $8.00 per person. June 7: Tamworth. Remick Country Doctor and Farm Museum hosts a rhubarb workshop from 10 a.m. to noon. Hardy rhubarb is one of the earliest treats of warm weather. June 14: Effingham. Celebrate Effingham will hold their annual Giant Yard Sale at the Municipal Building on School St. off Rt. 25 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. All kinds of good items will be for sale and refreshments will also be available.

June 17: Ossipee Corners. Celebrate the Ossipee Historical Society’s 88th Birthday Party at 7 p.m. today at the historic Carroll County Courthouse at 20 Courthouse Square (Route 171). We've been around a long time, and have many tales to tell. There will be stories, pictures, music, and cake, of course! For more information, call 603-539-1002.

June 14: Tamworth. Remick Country Doctor and Farm Museum will host Ox and Rocks from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Members of the Yankee Teamsters 4-H Working Steers Club will be competing for ribbons in Fitting & Showmanship, Cart & Obstacle Course and Stoneboat Hauling with their teams of steers and oxen. Remick Museum staff will be on site to demonstrate historic and modern farming chores, such as haying with sickle and scythe. Remick Farm’s own oxen, Dash and Diamond will participate in stone wall building and repair and plowing fields. The Earline Wright Visitor's Center will be open to the public, where Museum Interpreter, Virginia Taylor, will prepare ox tail soup. June 18-19: Chocorua. Nashville in the Mountains returns to the Brass Heart Inn in Chocorua featuring a very special performance by Grammy-nominated song writer and Nashville recording star Billy Yates and Long Neck Jones along with award-winning Shana Stack and Fast Lane. There will be a BBQ at 5:30 p.m., along with a bonfire and vendor displays. June 28: Freedom. At the stroke of noon, at the bridge on Mill Pond in Freedom Village, 1,000 ducks will go over the dam at the bridge on Mill Pond in Freedom Village! Monetary Prizes will be awarded to the first three ducks that go over the dam. Chances on the ducks will be sold up to 11:56 am. Other activities happening in conjunction with the race include free rides on Freedom's Antique Fire Engine, free hay rides, free kids games with many prizes, a food tent: hamburgers, hot dogs, Italian sausage sandwiches. June 29: Ossipee Old Home Week TOUCH-A-TRUCK" – Town Hall Parking Lot, Main Street, Center Ossipee 2:00 – 4:00PM:. A high-energy concert featuring some of the finest fiddlers around. They play a mix of Cajun, Swing, Jazz, Bluegrass, Country Western, Blues and more! Bring a lawn chair or blanket! July 5: South Effingham. The South Effingham and West Parsonsfield Citizens Organization will be holding their Annual Giant Bake Sale to benefit the South Effingham Church. It will take place across from the Church on Rt. 153 in South Effingham from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. This event is famous for their many fine pies, cakes, cookies, bars, coffee cakes, muffins, homemade fudge, baked beans and many, many other delectables. July 5: Tamworth Village. Ketchup, Mustard & Mayo workshop from 10 a.m. to noon at the Remick Country Doctor and Farm Museum. Today most folks are familiar with only one kind of ketchup – tomato! Up to the end of the 19th century, many different types of ketchup were commonplace. Learn how to prepare two of the most popular ketchups, cranberry and cucumber. July 8-12: Tamworth Village. Barnstormers Theatre shows "Babes In Arms" by Rodgers and Hart, the 1930's Broadway classic star vehicle for young Judy Garland and Mickey Rooney. Hear musical theatre's immortal hits, "My Funny Valentine," "Lady is a Tramp," and "Johnny One Note." It’s a show about the pure joy and idealism of a troupe of youthful summer theatre apprentices (Sound familiar??) "Hey, let's put on a show!!" July 12: Center Ossipee Village. COURT SPORTS DAY at OSSIPEE TOWN HALL from 9 AM – NOON. This is a special day set aside for all kinds of sports played on a court, but to participate you must use a wheelchair! Sports include: Basketball, Lacrosse, Ultimate Frisbee, Quad Rugby, Capture the Flag, Handball, and more. This will be lead by staff from NorthEast Passage. NorthEast Passage is a nationally recognized leader is adaptive sports and similarity awareness programs. July 13: Center Ossipee Village. Enjoy an evening with 2 very talented local artists BEV WOODS and SETH AUSTEN. They play a mix of Folk, Celtic, Country, Pop, and other styles of music. July 17: Center Ossipee. Magician and Dover, NH resident, BJ Hickman will perform at the Ossipee Town Hall, Thursday, at 6:30pm. July 15: Ossipee Corners. The Ossipee Historical Society is bringing Warren Lindsey to the Carroll County Courthouse to talk about the Ralph Jennings Trial at 7 p.m. Many years after the Frederick Small trial, Ossipee was once again the center of attention as this controversial case made its way through the Court. Listen to the facts, and decide for yourself: was justice served? This program is being held at the historic Carroll County Courthouse located at 20 Courthouse Square (Route 171) with refreshments. July 15-19: The Barnstormers Theatre shows "And a Nightingale Sang" by C.P. Taylor, a bittersweet romance, tender farce, and with a shot of history for good measure. Taylor gives us the Stott family in the north of England during World War II, underscored with music of the era. Helen, the eldest daughter expects little in the way of love, but the appearance of a soldier named Norman causes a seismic shift in the way she sees herself and her world. July 17: Effingham. Writers’ Night at the Effingham Library, featuring Elizabeth DeWolfe, Author and Historian will present her book THE MURDER OF MARY BEAN AND OTHER STORIES; and Natalie Peterson, Writer, Journalist and Researcher who will discuss her work. July 19: Chocorua. Nashville in the Mountains returns to the Brass Heart Inn tonight. We'll be just "Swingin'" in the "Seminole Wind" with country music legend John Anderson. July 20: Center Ossipee Village. Enjoy an evening with Idol Hands, four great local musicians featuring Lisa Ferguson, Doug Hazard, Peter Heimlich, and Bob Peelstrom. They play a mix of Old Country, Pop, and other styles of music that you will love. The concert that starts at 6:30 p.m. will be held rain or shine at the Ossipee Town Hall, Main Street, Center Ossipee and is free. Refreshments will be available.

July 22-26: The Barnstormers Theatre shows "Blithe Spirit" by Noel Coward, a masterwork of 20th century comedy by Britain's genius of laughter and social satire. The madcap plot is driven by the ghostly appearance of a former wife and engages the audience with seances and a cast of outlandish characters. Pure fun and sophistication!! July 27: Center Ossipee. Enjoy an evening of Classic Rock, R&B, and more with local resident, David Luke and his band "Ricky and the Giants." The concert is held rain or shine at the Ossipee Town Hall, Main Street, Center Ossipee, starting at 6:30 p.m. Refreshments will be available.

July 26: Effingham. Celebrate Effingham, the town’s annual fair day, will be held at the Murray Field Fire Station on Rt. 153. It will be kicked off with a parade from the library down Rt. 153 to South Effingham and back. Events during the day include a Rubber Ducky Race, Pie Judging Contest, Musical guests, a Crafts Village, booths featuring many of the nonprofits in town, a Civil War Reenactment, Dunking Booth, games for kids and adults, and many other activities. New this year will be the Chicken Barbecue during the afternoon accompanied by a Blue Grass Concert. Watch for more details as the fair comes closer. July 29-August 2: The Barnstormers Theatre shows "Toad of Toad Hall" by A. A. Milne, a dramatization of Kenneth Grahams A Wind In the Willows, with kindly Rat, wise Badger, gentle Mole, and conceited foolish Toad, who is always in trouble! His obsessions (caravanning and cars) lead to imprisionment, not to mention rollicking fights with the Weasels and the Stoats!! November 1: Tamworth. Turkey Processing workshop hosted by the Remick Country Doctor and Farm Museum from 10 a.m. to noon. Are you raising your own turkey for Thanksgiving this year? You will receive instruction in the entire process of how to correctly "dress" a turkey - from slaughtering the bird, to plucking feathers, to cleaning and storing poultry. You will want to wear work clothes and gloves for the workshop. Young people 16 years of age and older are welcome with a participating adult. The menu for Historic Thanksgiving includes roasted turkey, bread sauce stuffing-dressing, hearth bread and butter, boiled cider pie, Indian pudding, pumpkin stuffed with apples and cranberry sauce. November 29: Effingham. Christmas in Effingham will take place throughout town. Magnificently made items will be available for sale, ranging from Crockery, Jewelry, Artwork, Cards, Wood Turned Pens, Wood Scrollwork, Children’s Wooden Toys, Quilts, Children’s clothing, herbals and soap products, funky Wooden Creations and much more to a wonderful lunch which is always a hit and well attended. December 7: Tamworth. Come enjoy chocolate treats, sugar cookies, country crafts, and a little history at the annual Victorian Christmas at the Remick Country Doctor Museum and Farm and the Captain Enoch Remick House from 1-4 p.m. Both houses will be beautifully decorated in Victorian style. Sample chocolate treats, such as steamed chocolate pudding, black & gold marble cake, sweet vanilla hot chocolate, candied peel, chocolate nuts, and chocolate truffles. Taste the traditional holiday drink, Syllabub. In the Museum Visitor’s Center, try your hand at making country crafts, including corn husk angels, felted snowballs, and decorative gift tags. View exhibits on Christmas traditions, and see the living quarters of Dr. Edwin Crafts Remick, the country doctor who owned the property.Take a horse-drawn sleigh ride through the Joe Binsack Trail, offering spectacular views of Remick Farm. The staff at the Captain Enoch Remick House will be baking sugar cookies; they will also have the Christmas drink, Wassail, and ginger snaps.
